The Complutense University of Madrid is one of the oldest universities in the world. Founded in 1293, the university is a public research university also known as Universidad de Madrid. According to the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, the university is widely regarded as the most prestigious academic institution in Spain.

The modern Completeness University has also counted numerous Nobel Laureates not only among its graduates, but also its faculty members over the years. The former first Deputy Prime Minister, María Teresa Fernández de la Vega, and the former President, José María Aznar, are both graduates of the university.

History

The origin of The Complutense University dates back to the late 13th century when Sancho IV of Castile arranged the Archbishop of Toledo, Gonzalo García Gudiel, and a license to create the General School of Study in Alcalá in the city of Alcalá de Henares in the spring of 1293.

The Complutense University of Madrid as an open forum for debate and analysis in which the whole of scientific, political, business and civil society, in general, are invited to participate.
