Doshisha University

Doshisha University is a private university in Kyoto, Japan, established in 1875. The original name of this university is Doshisha English School. Students enroll in Japanese language and Japan studies courses in the Doshisha Center for the Japanese Language. The Center offers intensive courses in the beginning to advanced Japanese language as well as courses in Japanese culture, arts, society, history, politics, economics, and intercultural communication taught in English. Doshisha University has two main campuses. One is the Imadegawa Campus located in the heart of Kyoto City, north of Kyoto Imperial Palace and adjacent to a noted Buddhist temple, Shokokuji. The university campus is located in the northern part of the city. It also has satellite campuses in Tokyo and Osaka and international partnerships in place with institutions around the world including Dublin City.


The aim of Doshisha University is to encourage students to develop their full intellectual and human potential within an international atmosphere. It brings together a diverse group of faculty and students and encourages co-operative learning across the academic disciplines. It also offers a Bachelor of Arts degree taught exclusively in English.
