Brief Description:

New York State Higher Education Services Corporation is giving you a chance to apply for this “Current Excelsior Scholarship”. The program is designed for those students who have graduated from high school in the United States, earned a high school equivalency diploma, or passed a federally approved “Ability to Benefit” test. The scholarship is intended to help students and make available college tuition to achieve their education goal.

Host Institution:

The New York State Higher Education Services Corporation in New York State’s student financial aid agency, helping people pay for college by providing more grant and scholarship awards than any other state in the nation.

Eligibility:

Eligible applicants will be evaluated using the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be a resident of NYS and have resided in NYS for 12 continuous months prior to the beginning of the term.
  • Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • Applicants must have graduated from high school in the United States, earned a high school equivalency diploma, or passed a federally approved “Ability to Benefit” test.
  • Applicants must be pursuing an undergraduate degree at a SUNY or CUNY college, including community colleges and the statutory colleges at Cornell University and Alfred University.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in at least 12 credits per term and complete at least 30 credits each year successively, applicable toward his or her degree program.
  • Applicants must be in a non-default status on a student loan made under any NYS or federal education loan program or on the repayment of any NYS award.
  • Applicants must be in compliance with the terms of the service conditions imposed by an NYS award that you have previously received.

NYS Higher Education Services Corporation Native American Indian Aid

Brief Description:

If you are an enrolled member of a New York State you have a chance to apply for this “Native American Indian Aid”. In order, to apply the student must be enrolled in an approved program offered by a college, university, technical school, school of nursing, business, or trade school located in New York State. The scholarship is designed to help student o pursuing their education goal.

Eligibility:

To receive the Nitro Parent Scholarship, a beneficiary must:

  • The student must be a resident of New York State and be on an official tribal roll of a New York State tribe or be the child of an enrolled member of a New York State tribe.  New York State tribes include members of the Iroquoian tribes (St. Regis Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca Nation, Tonawanda Band of Seneca, and Tuscorora), the Shinnecock tribe, and the Poospatuck tribe.  An official tribal roll is a list of individuals designated by the tribal authorities as member of their tribe.
  • The student must have graduated from an accredited high school, attained a high school equivalency diploma or be enrolled in a special program at an approved, accredited postsecondary institution which will lead to degree status and to a high school equivalency diploma.
  • The student must be enrolled in an approved program offered by a college, university, technical school, school of nursing, business, or trade school located in New York State.  Approved programs include collegiate and no collegiate program which are registered by the New York State Education Department.
  • Students registered for less than 12 credit hours per semester will be considered part-time and will be funded on a prorated basis.
