Brief Description:

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Division of Orthopedic Surgery is pleased to announce “UAB Division of Orthopaedic Surgery Research Fellowship”. Medical students interested in orthopedic surgery as a career, a yearlong comprehensive musculoskeletal experience are eligible to apply.  The goal of the fellowship is to provide students a broad exposure to orthopedics to help build a solid foundation prior to residency, to learn how to conduct clinical research and to build strategic relationships within the profession.

Host Institution:

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is a public research university in Birmingham in the U.S. state of Alabama. Developed from an academic extension center established in 1936, the institution became an autonomous institution in 1969 and is today one of three institutions in the University of Alabama System and the only R1 research institution in the state.


This scholarship program is applicable for:

  • Medical students interested in orthopedic surgery as a career, a year-long comprehensive musculoskeletal experience.
  • The year is designed for medical students between their third and fourth year and is a blend of research (70%) and clinical (30%) experiences.
