Brief Description:

University of Delaware presents a competitive graduate assistant stipend and tuition waiver.  This allows new graduate students to explore research opportunities with faculty members and select a faculty advisor during the first year. The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers three graduate degree programs: Master of Science, Master of Engineering, and Ph.D. All graduate programs offer considerable flexibility in course selection and specialization of study.

The University of Delaware is the largest university in Delaware. The main campus is in Newark, with satellite campuses in Dover, Wilmington, Lewes, and Georgetown. It is considered a large institution with approximately 18,500 undergraduate and 4,500 graduate students.

Eligibility:

  • A baccalaureate degree in mechanical engineering or in a closely allied field of science or mathematics.
  • An undergraduate grade point average in engineering, science and mathematics courses of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • A minimum combined Quantitative and Verbal score of 308 (1200) on the Graduate Record Examination Aptitude Test.
  • A minimum score of 600 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language, at least 100 on the IBT with a speaking score of 20, or a minimum score of 6.5 with no individual sub-score below 6.0 on the IELTS alternative. A waiver of the TOEFL exam is only allowed when a degree has been earned in a country where English is the primary language or a degree has already been earned in the United States.

Financial Assistantship:

Awards of financial assistantships, which include graduate tuition and a competitive stipend, are made to applicants of the Ph.D. program on the basis of merit.
